Skin Treatments for Rosacea

By Alistair Nole

Over 45 million people in the world are affected by acne rosacea, which is known as a chronic facial disorder and it can sometimes be progressive. It is characterized by an extremely sensitive skin, permanent redness, bloodshot eyes and swelling. Those from north-western European descent have been known to be particularly affected by this, and some in Ireland dubbed it "The curse of the Celts".

If melasma turns parts of your face dark, rosacea somewhat does the same. Rosacea is different because the marks are more red. Sometimes, redness happens to faces naturally. When a person's adrenaline rises, it can cause redness. It can also be caused by dilation of the arteries when you eat something really spicy. When one has rosacea, the redness will be more pronounced and prominent.

Doctors rule out bacterial infection as a cause for rosacea. Blushing occurs with some people more than others, and genetic attributes contribute to this. Those who consume alcohol can have redder faces, but when that person has rosacea, it can make it worse. The age of 30 is a common time for rosacea to be diagnosed by a dermatologist.

Signs of rosacea may include redness around the cheeks, redness along with bumps and pimples (which usually follow red cheeks), swollen skin around the nose, and blood vessels becoming conspicuous on the skin surface.

Rosacea can be treated using lasers, which work well for many kinds of skin disorders. Dermatologists usually prescribe a topical rosacea treatment to begin with. There are antibiotic skin creams available that are effective for treating rosacea, and minocin and tetracycline are common ingredients in these. For severe or less severe instances of rosacea, this can be effective. In managing severe cases, oral antibiotics may be prescribed by a dermatologist for a more potent control of the skin condition.

Putting on more makeup is usually the first thing rosacea sufferers do to cover their face. The fact about this is that the issue will be made worse by using too much makeup. One should avoid makeup whenever possible, and it should be minimized when used on special occasions. Otherwise, stay away from it. Whenever rosacea symptoms appear, mild cleaners are often recommended. Cleanliness will make the chances that rosacea will worsen to be much less. Natural cleansers are the obvious choice, free of major chemicals and unnatural compounds. There are parts of some of these cleansers that will cause harm to your skin.

Rosacea can occur in adults of any ethnicity, and adversely affects patients' quality of life. The condition can be effectively controlled with therapy tailored to the specific subtype of rosacea that is affecting the patient. Using products that are natural in origin help a lot for reducing rosacea symptoms. However, like any medical condition, it's always best to consult the specialists. Patients with rosacea, or other skin conditions such as melasma can benefit from the experience of a well known and respected dermatologist and their expert treatment methods to enrich patient's lives.
