How To Bake Your Own Paleo Protein Bars

By Gisela Kaiser

The paleo lifestyle is increasing in popularity, and so is the market for paleo-friendly protein bars. The problem is that they can get costly, and they may not have the flavor choices you are looking for.

If you've been here before, and you enjoy testing out new recipes - why not bake your own homemade protein bars? They could take time to bake, and they do not come in convenient single-serving packages, but with some practice and some closable plastic bags, you can develop your own nutritious snack bars that you can take along with you in the car, to the gym or while traveling.

If you've ever read the labels for paleo bars, you most likely have discovered a couple of similarities. There are usually fewer than 10 ingredients, and many contain nuts, coconut, protein powder and sometimes dried fruit.

These are all products that you can purchase at your local supermarket, combine in a food processor, spread out in a baking tray and cook for roughly 10-20 minutes. When finished, you just take the baking pan out to cool, cut your bars into single-size servings and store in air-tight containers that are ready to eat when you are.

The first few recipes that you make might be trial and error as far as discovering the flavor and consistency you prefer. There are numerous free recipe samples on the internet that you can find by conducting a fast search in a search engine.

As soon as you discover a dish that you like, you can get nuts, seeds and protein powder in bulk to save money. In addition to having nutritious meals - you will be saving money as well!

Nuts, of course, are a good protein source, but some individuals include egg or protein powder to increase the quantity.

Nuts, shredded coconut and dried blueberries will not stick together on their own. You want to include things such as almond butter, coconut oil with flax seed meal or honey to hold everything from falling apart.

Spices such as almond extract or cinnamon can spice up your treats, in addition to a touch of salt. Get innovative with the paleo items you include in your own recipes, as this can enhance the flavor, enhance the variety and make it easier to enjoy the paleolithic lifestyle.
