.: Fighting Cancer and Losing Weight With a Cabbage

Cabbage is a star vegetable. Aside from helping people in Cabbage Soup Diet (a fast weight- loss program), it is also known to fight the battle against cancer.
The Big C
Cancer is also known as the Big C. It is considered as one of the causes of mortality around the world. The chances are very high and nobody is spared from its deadly grip.
You can lower your risk of getting cancer if you live a healthy lifestyle. Apart from exercising and having a positive attitude, part of being healthy is including green, leafy vegetables in your daily diet.
Experts reveal that cruciferous vegetables such as cabbage, Brussels sprouts, and broccoli can really help to prevent cancer. Truly, this preventive method is cheaper and more convenient compared to the expenses and pain you will experience if cancer invades your body.
Cabbage is a Cancer-Fighter
According to Cancer Research Conference (Britain), cabbage contains Indole-3-Carbinol (I3C) which is a powerful cancer fighter if used together with chemotherapy. The study involved feeding the tumor cells about 300-400 mg of I3C. The result is that the cancer cells surrendered and were easily killed by chemotherapy.
Also, they have seen effects on estrogen metabolism - these became potent in fighting against prostate and breast cancer cells. Because of this, the researchers are now studying if I3C can be used to intervene with conventional cancers.
In Netherlands, a study also revealed that the subjects who consumed cruciferous vegetables (like cabbage) lowered their chance of having colorectal cancer by 49%. Another study in Singapore found that inclusion of these vegetables in the daily diet will lower the risk potential of having lung cancer in smokers by 60%
In a cabbage, there are phytochemicals called glucosinolates who are believed to be the ones responsible for its cancer fighting ability. The benefits of cabbage consumption are known to be more prominent in smokers, men, and individuals who are more than 60 years old.
Lose Weight by Eating Cabbages
A lot of people have tried to lose weight. More often than not, their efforts turn out to be unsuccessful. A Manhattan expert in diet, Dr. Howard Shapiro, said that overweight people generally want to have a quick fix or a magic bullet. He added further that these people will eat a cabbage soup for one week if they believe that it will work.
Actually, that is what a Cabbage Soup Diet will do. They will give people the belief that they could lose weight - and fast. It is a program designed for only 7 days with a goal of at least 10 pounds weight loss during that period.
It allows you to consume unlimited cabbage soup and water. However, there are other foods that can be permitted, mostly fruits and vegetables.
There is a running myth that this diet has originated in well-known hospitals, but these hospitals have already denied this association. However, even if Cabbage Soup Diet is not entirely suitable for a long-term weight loss, it can still be used to jumpstart your life long healthy food intake of cabbage - to help you prevent the risk of cancer.

.: Lose Weight, Lower Cholesterol and Cancer Risk With Fiber

Dietary fiber intake is an important element for preventative medicine. It is estimated that North Americans consume less than 50% of the recommended amount of fiber required for optimal health. Federal dietary guidelines recommend that we consume 14 grams of fiber for every 1,000 calories of food that we eat.
What is fiber?
Fiber or roughage is the indigestible part of fruits and vegetables. It is very important for digestion and also promotes healthy gut bacteria. Fiber comes in 2 forms that are discussed below.
Soluble fiber
Soluble fiber dissolves in water. After ingestion it absorbs water and becomes a viscous gel-like material. Soluble fiber absorbs toxins and fats aiding in the elimination of these substances and preventing their absorption from the intestines and into the bloodstream.
Insoluble fiber
Insoluble fiber does not change form after ingestion. It therefore represents foods that pass through the digestive system and colons without breaking down or dissolving in water. Insoluble fibers play several roles, such as regulating the level of PH (acidity) in the intestines, pushing more toxic wastes via the colon and preventing diseases such as colorectal cancer.
What are the benefits of fiber?
There are many benefits to a high fiber diet that include:
Reduces bad cholesterol- Soluble fiber has been shown to lower total and LDL (bad) cholesterol. It can also reduce blood pressure and inflammation, which can have a protective effect on heart health.
Controls blood sugar spikes- Fiber slows the absorption of sugar from the intestinal tract, which helps normalize blood sugar levels and prevents rapid spikes in blood glucose levels. High fiber diets are associated with a decrease risk of Type 2 diabetes.
Helps with weight loss- High fiber foods give a feeling of fullness and satiety and usually take longer to eat. This gives the body the necessary 20 minutes to recognize that we are full. Diets that are high in fiber are also less energy dense, meaning the same volume of food contains less calories. Another bonus is that fiber binds to fat and can inhibit absorption. A recent study showed that just 5 grams per day flaxseed fiber when taken as a liquid can inhibit enough fat absorption that would equate to a 3.5 pound weight loss in one year.
Lowers risk of certain cancers- Adequate fiber intake of 30 grams per day has also been shown to reduce the risk of breast and colon cancer.
Here are some good sources of fiber
-Whole-grain products. Bonus tip: Switch from bread to whole grains wraps. There are many brands that contain 13 grams of fiber, but only 100 calories per wrap. Compare that to 2 slices of bread that provide only 6 grams of fiber and 200 calories.
-Fruits and Vegetables
-Beans, peas and other legumes
-Nuts and seeds
In conclusion, fiber binds to and helps excrete toxins and fats. It also reduces cholesterol and your risk of Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Most North Americans do not get enough. Increasing your intake of fruits, vegetables, legumes and nuts can help you achieve the optimal 30 grams per day necessary to get these benefits. Supplementing with a psyllium fiber like Metamucil can also assist you. One teaspoonful in water will provide 6 grams of fiber. Make sure to buy the one with no sugar added.

.: Weight Loss And Cancer: Aggressive Treatment Saves Lives And Improves Quality Of Life

Weight loss from cancer is a major issue in our day to day practice. Half of all cancer patients face significant weight loss. The type of cancer related weight loss that I am alluding to is known as cancer cachexia where the weight loss is involuntary, debilitating and associated with severe muscle wasting. This has a major impact on quality of life and nearly 20% of cancer deaths is attributed to weight loss and not directly to Cancer..
The Meaning of words:
Anorexia: Reduced appetite or the reduced desire to eat. Anorexia is present in 15 percent to 25 percent of all cancer patients at the time of diagnosis.
Cachexia: The net result which is seen as severe weight loss, muscle loss, and general weakness.
Most patients with cancer have both Anorexia and Cachexia. There are some who have a great appetite but continue to lose weight. Some of my patients tell me.."But doc..I don't understand, I am eating well but continue to lose weight...". The reason for this is simple, such patients are just burning up more calories than they are able to replace by eating.
Why is it important to recognize and take action when you see weight loss in cancer patients?
Patients who stop losing weight feel better, have a better quality of life, improve their immunity, reduce their chance of infections, keep their energy level and strength up so that they can better tolerate treatment and have an increased ability to recover and heal quickly.
Reasons for weight loss in Cancer:
1. The diversion of nutrients to the cancers cells and away from normal tissues and organs. It is very similar to a parasite within the body that feeds off any food that is taken in.
2. Cancers secrete chemicals that significantly reduces protein production and increases their breakdown. Muscle wasting and weight loss is the inevitable outcome.
3. Side effects of Treatment: mouth sores, dry mouth, trouble swallowing, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, pain, depression and anxiety. Cancer medications may cause patients to taste and smell foods different.
4. Direct result of cancer: Cancers of the mouth, esophagus and stomach may produce physical pain and obstruction that causes the patients not able to eat and swallow foods resulting in malnutrition.
How do you recognize cancer related weight loss?
Many times, this is very obvious and is verbalized by the patient. However, early signs of such a situation can be recognized when patients lose more than 5 % of their body weight in the prior 6 months involuntarily.
Treatment of Cancer Related Weight Loss:
A. Treat Side effects of treatment aggressively. Such conditions as mouth sores, dry mouth etc with medications.
B. Treat the direct effects of cancer with anti cancer treatment such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy as well as surgery. Placement of a feeding tube into the stomach is utilized for those patients who have issues with swallowing and physical problems in eating.
C. Treating Anorexia and Cachexia with:
1. Megestrol in the form of Megace solution is known to increase muscle mass in patients with cancer.
2. Dronabinol and Marinol are FDA-approved forms of marijuana that can help stimulate the appetite.
3. Steroids such as Dexamethasone.
4. Fish oil. Numerous studies have reported the benefits of fish oil supplementation. Recent studies have demonstrated their beneficial effects in correcting weight loss and anorexia from cancer and its treatment.
In summary, weight loss in cancer patients is a situation that is not adequately recognized and treated by patients and their care givers. My contention is that, aggressively addressing this issue can have a major impact on the life of our patients. We can not only improve their overall quality of life but also possibly achieve better cure rates since these patients may be able to better tolerate more aggressive therapy.

: Weight Loss Reduces Your Chances for Breast Cancer

Weight loss is constantly being researched. When was the last time you tried to "fix" your weight without seeing a nutritionist or your doctor, or tried a fad diet because it worked for someone you know? Everyone at one point or another tries something to gain or lose weight, so when a new report by the American Society of Clinical Oncology releases a report about weight loss connected to breast cancer, it's big news.
The findings of head researcher, Dr. Ann McTiernan, show that losing a little weight can reduce the production of certain hormones known to cause breast cancer. However, Dr. McTiernan elaborates further by saying this study is only applicable to obese and overweight women and those who are not taking any hormone replacement medication. Usually women who are on hormonal replacement therapy are at their menopausal stage or pre-menopausal stage. The hormones help them deal with hot flashes and bone density loss.
In summary, Dr. McTiernan says exercise and eating vegetables, fiber, and fruits reduce fat and lower the levels of blood estrogen which are known to lead to breast cancer. Even women in their 60s and 70s can avoid this type of cancer by following a healthy diet and exercising.
The findings do not include men who can also get breast cancer or women who are just a few pounds overweight. In addition, the good doctor says that a 5% weight loss will give a person a bigger leeway but does not mean a guarantee that breast cancer will not occur. There are other causes for this type of cancer such as genetics and lifestyle.
Other Findings
As in all medical research, this study also takes into consideration the form of weight loss program each participant uses. For Dr. McTiernan, exercise is the best way to drop pounds without adverse effects. Other methods would be changing one's diet and nutrition and sticking to natural ingredients instead of those peppered with preservatives.
From another point of view, there are many experts who believe that getting to one's ideal weight is a matter of discipline and taking the right kind of supplements. Many people have a difficult time losing weight because they just don't like to take up a sport, sweat, or go to a gym, especially those who are overweight. The reality is that the first few steps to losing weight are the hardest. The spirit may be willing but the body bogs down fast and that is depressing. It is so frustrating that many have resorted to taking diet pills or starvation because it's easier.
No Effort, No Results
Another reality in losing weight is mind over matter. You just need to find one reason to drink that supplement or run that extra round. The fact that those who drop pounds can sleep easier about breast cancer is icing on the cake.
At the end of the day, a person has to stop taking drugs because it renders them immune to the drug's efficiency. One must also consider turning to natural means for weight loss and consider an option that may also open doors for more lifestyle and income opportunities.

.: Want Fast Weight Loss? Juice Fasting is the Key!

People who go on a juice fast are warned that they will have a lot of weight loss really fast & that they should not be alarmed. It is perfectly normal to see people drop 30-40 pounds in a 30 day juice fast! This may be the solution for you, if you are serious and committed to the idea of losing weight.
What is a juice fast?

A juice fast is a fast. You need to consume nothing else other than juices for the entire time you are on the fast. A typical fast may last one week to a month even. You can consume as much juice as you want to. In fact, it is recommend that you consume a whole lot of juice. You keep the body satisfied and are never hungry as such.
What kind of juices must be consumed?
Juices of fruits and vegetables. Nothing processed or bought off-the-shelf will do. You just need to use a juicer and cut-up fruits and vegetables and make a concentrate. Dilute them in an equal amount of water and consume it.
Here are some of the fruits and vegetables that are suggested: parsley, kale, beet greens, chard, spinach, dandelion leaf, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, beats, sweat potatoes, dark grapes, apples, citrus, yucca root, funnel, spearmint, peppermint, basil, ginger, garlic, green onion, chilly, pepper, fresh turmeric root (small amounts).
Since most of these, one their own, would be rater un-pleasant to have, you could try mixing the flavors and making more appetizing juices.
But, how does juice fasting work?
All natural fruits and vegetables have very few calories relative to their size. This means, you can consume a whole lot of them and still keep your calorie intake rather low. So, you can have how much ever juice you want. Stay hydrated and satisfied and not-hungry and still not consume too many calories. And you surely know that weight loss is achieved only if you consume less calories and burn more. It should be an easy task for one to restrict their calorie intake to the desired level on a juice diet.
Besides this, there is another very good side-effect of being on a juice diet. You see, natural fruits and vegetables are rich in "digestive enzymes". Cooked or processed food, just do not have these. (This is because, the process of cooking, hating above 118 degrees, destroys digestive enzymes.) Digestive enzymes, help your body break down food and use the food you consume much more efficiently. In the absence of theses "digestive enzymes", the body starts to store the food we eat and this leads to obesity.
So, if you are keen on rapid weight loss, this might just be the solution. Just remember to follow it religiously! And before you go ahead with your plans, I suggest you pay a visit to your doctor and make sure that it would be safe for your particular condition.

.: Juice Plan for Weight Loss

Weight loss plans may include diet, exercise, or even diet aids. One of the best diet aids may be juicing. The right kind of juice can help your body cleanse and flush fat, get all the nutrition you need and help you look and feel your best.

Juicing is one of the best ways to get all the nutrition you need. But you do have to use fresh made juice. Include a variety of fresh vegetables and even herbs. Try to use organic vegetables when possible. Investing in a quality juicer will help you do this on a daily basis.
Juicing is full of live enzymes that help your body cleanse. These enzymes aid digestion, stimulate metabolism and, according to many health professionals, are the best way to help your body build new cells. These cells may be in the form of fresh skin cells, which gives your complexion a healthy glow. They are also the new cells used to replace old cells damaged from unhealthy foods.
Fresh made juice is more easily assimilated in your body than whole foods. This is because your body does not have to digest and break down the food and fibers. It is already done by the juicer, so your body just needs to absorb the enzymes. Because of this, you have to be careful how much of certain foods you drink, do not over do any one food.
If you add the right combination of vegetables, you can satisfy your body's nutritional needs while helping your body cleanse excess weight. This can often help curb hunger. Some greens like dandelion, help stimulate the liver to function. This is important to ensure that your liver continues to burn fat instead of store it.
Some vegetables and herbs are ideal for weight loss and helping your body flush fat. Celery is full of natural mineral water and excellent at helping the body cleanse. Garlic and onion not only kill bacteria, but are said to stimulate metabolism.
Some fruits can be helpful for weight loss, too. Lemon juice is added to plain water by many people to help flush toxins. Try adding some to your vegetable juice. Grapefruit juice is excellent to assist the body's ability to burn fat instead of store it. Making fresh grapefruit is more effective than bottled.
If you decide to add juicing to your weight loss regimen, strive to keep it fresh so you get full benefits. Even medical doctors recognize that it is easier for one to drink their daily amount of vegetables. And if you drink fruit juice, just be careful not to overdo it. And, of course, if you take medications, check with your doctor about what kind of juice is safe.
One of the most important aspects of any weight loss program is getting the right amount of nutrition; and veggie juice can help you accomplish this. Getting enough nutrition means keeping our metabolism revving, helping your body to flush fat, helping your liver to burn stored fat and the whole time helping your to feel and look your absolute best. Juicing is truly one of the best weight loss tools and a natural beauty regimen.

.: Juice Diet - Detox and Weight Loss?

Juice diet is a popular diet that many people try to follow - Most people follow it as a detox diet for weight loss. It has many forms based on lemon, orange, carrot, vegetables and other possibilities. It is basically a fad diet or crash diet, involves intake of fruit juices, and water only. It is an extreme diet form, as no solid food is consumed during the length of the diet. Is the juice diet healthy? Does it detox your system?
So, does it help weight loss? Think of it this way. The point of the juice detox diet for weight loss is to consume fewer calories than your current metabolic rate (The number of calories your body burns on a daily basis). With the calorie deficit, you assume it will help you lose weight. But is there really a calorie deficit in your juice diet? Or are you consuming too many calories on your juice diet?
Say, you are on an orange juice diet - Is this fresh juice or packaged juice? If its packaged orange juice (and most packaged juices are sweetened), and you're drinking 8-10 glasses of orange fruit juice, then you might be consuming a large amount of sugar with it. Sugar makes you store fat. So, stay off the package fruit juice.
Now, if you are on an unsweetened fresh fruit juice detox diet or vegetable juice detox diet, then you know you're not consuming the extra sugar calories but fewer calories. If weight loss was just a game of calories, then this could possibly work, but there are some complications to it.
Vegetables and fruits are loaded with vitamins, minerals and nutrients, so you assume vegetable juices and fruit juices are also good for your health. Yes, these vegetable and fruit juices have some of these nutritional benefits, but being on a juice diet completely deprives you of macro nutrients like protein and fat.
Let's talk about protein first. On the juice diet, there is no protein source. Now, the human body has a certain amount of muscle weight (both men & women). Besides giving your body shape, muscles also help protect your bone structure from injury, and store energy for your body. When you eat little or no protein on the juice diet, then it's not enough to maintain these muscles. As a result, your body experiences muscle catabolism - where your body uses muscle protein to maintain essential muscles. As a result, one of the side effects of the juice diet is that you lose muscle. When you lose this muscle, you lose muscle weight. So, the weighing scale might say you've lost weight, but is that the weight you wanted to lose? Then further, with lower muscle content in your body, your metabolic rate goes down. With a lower metabolic rate, your body's calorie requirements go down further. So, you need fewer calories to maintain your body. As a result, your previously low calories diet might not be low enough. Do you need to go lower?
Now, let's talk about no fat in your diet - fat is an essential component to the digestion process. It improves absorption of nutrients into your body. With no fat in your diet, fewer nutrients from your juice diet get absorbed in your body.
Besides this, there are other possible issues with the juice diet:
Hypoglycemia: A vegetable juice diet can be low on carbohydrates. Low on carbohydrate can lead to hypoglycemia, leading to severe headache and low blood pressure.
Acidic Blood/Ketosis: When a diet is changed from a high carbohydrate diet to a diet that does not provide sufficient carbohydrate to replenish glycogen stores, the body goes through a set of stages to enter ketosis, with side effects including fainting, dizziness, low blood pressure, heart arrhythmia (irregular heart beat), hunger, vomiting and more.
Juice-Drug Interaction: It can affect you adversely if you are on prescription drugs or medications. According to American Journal of Cardiology, pomegranate and grapefruit juice interact with "statins" (cholesterol lowering medicines), anti-allergens, blood pressure drugs, pain killers and immune suppressants. American Chemical Society found out apple and orange juice also interacts with antacids and antibiotic therapy. These interactions can lead to potential hazard to your health.
So, do you still want to go with juice diet to lose weight? If you want to lose weight, get on a healthy weight loss plan, with a balanced diet and an effective exercise routine.

A week before starting your fast, it is important that you eliminate alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, sugar, dairy, and meat from your diet to prepare your body for the cleansing. These changes will help you minimize any side effects that may be experienced.
During juice fasting, consume between 32 and 64 ounces of juice a day. Juice can be made out of celery, carrots, kale, spinach, cabbage, apple, pineapple, cranberry, beets, and greens. To enhance flavor in your fresh juices, you can also add spices such as cayenne, cinnamon, pepper and coriander. These ingredients will help to stimulate your metabolism too.

.: Can You Lose Weight Simply By Drinking Juice?

Sipping a drink is fast and convenient, but sugar-filled colas are bad for the figure. Wouldn't it be nice if there were a way to have that convenience and still slim down. There is a way: drink juice for weight loss.
Juicing for weight loss is very easy. You need a juicer--the Omega VRT330 and the Breville BJE511XL are both excellent in their own way. Merely cut the fruits and veggies you know you ought to eat into pieces that will fit in the juicer, and get the nutrients and anti-oxidants concentrated in your glass.
Juicing for weight loss saves you time. Juicing is a lot faster, despite clean up, than preparing, then eating, salads. It concentrates the nutrients. A glass is worth 4-6 salads. Remember, though, just as 6 salads would not be a balanced, nutritious food plan for everyday, juice for weight loss is only part of the strategy. You should have added protein, dairy products, a few carbohydrates, and undoubtedly other vitamins or supplements. Speak with an expert in nutrition or your health care provider. Juice may be the center-piece, not the whole feast.
A juicing diet is beautiful. A beet makes a lovely ruby color when added to a celery stalk, a cored apple, and a cucumber (a mixture called "Red Wonder Juice"). A couple of carrots, a sweet potato, and a couple of cored Granny Smith apples create a brilliant orange drink. Ordinary wheatgrass is an emerald green. Those are only three of the possibilities. Try to create the entire rainbow!
Fruits can give a sweetness to your vegetable juices. Mix a couple cups of pineapple, two peeled oranges, and a sweet potato for a dynamite breakfast beverage. (You can easily include protein powders and other nutritional supplements, as you like.) Be careful to go lightly on the fruit and carrots, for they are rather high in natural sugars. They bring up the calorie count, but more significantly, they raise blood sugar. This can be extremely harmful for those with diabetes or pre-diabetes.
You can juice solely veggies. Cucumber juice mixed with a little bit of mint can be especially refreshing on a hot afternoon. Ditto a frosted glass of carrot juice.
Mixtures of the dark leafy greens--kale, chard, spinach--are uber-nutritious, but may be a bit bitter. Mix them with apple, sweet potato, or even a bit of ginger root. You can stir in fizzy tonic water--diet, of course--for extra pizazz. Too many tastes and colors look like mud and taste like it, too--so experiment with care.
Weight loss has no magic pills, but a juice diet does have powerful potions. You can create an appealing, yummy, and filling juice for weight loss any time you wish. Summer time is the ideal time to sip away extra pounds with a juice diet.

.: Color and Emotional Eating

"I am not a glutton--I am an explorer of food."   Erma Bombeck

One of the most common questions I receive regarding weight release is about emotional eating, closely followed by binge eating. Although similar in the lack of control we may feel why we are working our way through the kitchen, energetically speaking, binge eating and emotional eating also have some unique differences.
Emotional eating subconsciously fills a void and can involve ALL aspects of our emotions, which include eating when happy and celebrating, depressed or angry--the entire gamut of emotions which can drive us to food. Binge eating is an attempt to become grounded. Seldom are we attached to any emotions, even though the binge may have been triggered by something emotional. Heaven forbid we THINK about what or why we are eating, because then we may stop!
Color relates to energy and can play a key role toward emotional eating. I would like to address the use of color to help you identify potential triggers and to help you gain control over emotional eating. Have you noticed the new furry little orange "monster" used to promote a popular weight loss program? The company has personified "craving" in this little monster branding. The ad plays on your emotions with the use of color. Color, and in this case, orange, plays on your emotional impulses. Although the ads are to prompt you to join their nationwide program, they subliminally work on your emotional memory, which is your "orange" energy. They want you emotionally involved in their program because all emotions drive behavior. One of my favorite mantras is "thoughts create, emotions manifest." The advertising industry knows this! That is why branding is important, but COLOR is vital. Matching color to the message creates clear, concise actions. That practice defines true success, not just with ads, but with your own initiatives.
Now I want to talk about why we overeat. We overeat to fill a void, but it is more than that. Binge eating is more about getting ourselves grounded, in fact often when one binge eats the tendency is to "zone out." Yes, folks, this is experience talking; I am not quoting texts or clinical studies, I've personally struggled with this issue in the past. Binge eating can be considered "out of body" eating.
Many of us are not even aware of what food goes in or how much goes in! Why is that? The answer is, "YOU ARE NOT GROUNDED!" Weight is called "weight" for a reason! Food weighs us down, and gives us a feeling of being in our body. When we finish our binge and come out of our "zone," we experience an entire gamut of emotions--including self-loathing. Subconsciously we binge because we are not grounded, meaning we are solid within our own body and our own skin.
I associate binge eating both with the crown energy center (white) and the base center (red). Emotional eating is associated with your second energy center, which is our "orange" energy. When there is depletion in this energy center, we try to fill that void somehow. "Orange" energy is associated with person-to-person relationships. This can be represented by co-workers, bosses, spouses, parents (especially mother), siblings, or children; but it is more about the emotional relationships which tend to drain our thoughts and our energy. We eat to fill that void, and the color orange can activate a need to fill that void. Orange can stir up your emotions, but it is also the color to prompt creativity, so you don't want to avoid it altogether-again, there's a need for balance.
The color orange can also activate the second energy center and create cravings, stir up emotions, and can contribute to emotional eating. Warm emerging hues, such as warm reds and warm yellow hues (pushing to orange) can activate our need for survival and our need to "nest" as it is also related to our reproductive system. When women are pregnant, the sacral and base centers are working overtime; therefore, the body holds onto energy, and thus can hold on to fat in those areas. Weight (fat) in this area is ALL about survival, emotions, or even fear. The fear can be a fear of moving forward (change) or fear of losing control. Fat subconsciously protects our energy centers, so wherever you hold your fat, look at the emotions which correspond to that area. Pregnancy and relationship issues can trigger these emotions and drain our "orange" energy-- so we eat to fill that void!
Don't misunderstand me, orange is a wonderful, happy color, but as with all colors, there's a need for balance. If you are having issues with emotional eating, check out the role that the color orange plays in your environment. Closely examine the packaging, advertising, and marketing aspects of your favorite comfort foods. Fast foods and junk foods are seldom subdued in color. The colors of our burger joints may not necessarily be orange, but mixing the hues of yellow and red together create what color? Yes, orange--so subliminally it still plays a role.
Also, take note as to what color you are wearing, or the color of your kitchen or office. Even look at the color of your mouse pad or your screen saver. So many factors can contribute to emotional eating. I remember when my mom was pregnant with my little brother, she would buy these HUGE bags of cheese curls (yes, they were that artificial orange color). Becoming aware of the color of the food you are drawn to can also be a hint as to what area of your body may be needing attention.
Orange is my favorite color, so this is not a slam on orange. All I ask is that you take note of where and how the color orange plays in your life. If you are dealing with emotional eating or emotional situations in general, look around you and see if your environment, your wardrobe, or your food cravings involve the color orange. Knowledge is power, and sometimes just shifting from the emotional side to the logical side by looking at the energy (the color around you) and recognizing its influence, can put you back in control.
Instead of food to fill that orange/emotional void, look at your life logically. If you are depressed and need a lift, then you need MORE orange to balance out the energy. A couple of different ways to accomplish this would be to drink from an orange cup or even wear orange undies. If you break down in tears or are very edgy, manic, or EXCESSIVELY emotional, then shift to more natural hues and tone down the orange. Shifting to more natural/neutral hues can help ground you and help you gain control. Of course, everyone's first impulse is to reach for the blues or the greens. Look more into using neutral shades, such as browns, grays, and earth tones because they can help calm and ground you.
So, next time you are dealing with emotional eating, try taking a deep belly breath, pat yourself on the head, even stomp you feet to help get yourself grounded. Examine orange in your life, replace it with something more grounding if you are hyped up, add it to your life if you need cheered up, and by all means laugh, because orange should make you HAPPY, NOT HUNGRY!

.: Psychology Of Colors: The Dining Room

Colors affect our minds, our physiologies, and our social interactions. The colors you choose when decorating a room can have an effect on any occasion that you hold there. The dining room is a place of delicate social situations that occurs between the most intimate of relationships. By first considering the psychological effects of the following colors, one can help to make the dining room a more relaxing place to eat and gather.
The first thing to consider when choosing a dining rooms colors, are the effects they will have on appetite. The color blue is a well known appetite suppressant. This is because there is very little blue food found in nature. The color blue isn't exactly a weight loss program; it simply causes a slight psychological change that makes people feel less hungry. Avoiding this color will help guests to better enjoy they're meals
On the contrary, orange and red can actually cause an increase in a person's appetite. The color orange is often associated with need, hunger, and a desire to be full. Red is about devouring, and increases metabolisms. Using these colors strategically could cause the perception of your cooking skill to rise. However you have to be careful with red. It causes aggression and can lead to fighting. Be restrained in your use of this color, and fall back more on orange, which produces a more elated feeling.
For a gathering room such as the dining room, earth tones can be a wonderful way to convey a sense of warmth. These colors remind people of the earth, making them feel more connected to the world and to the other people in the room. The ability of tans and browns to make us feel safe, allow us to open up more when we are surrounded by them.
The greatest advice when decorating is to stay true to you. While you can dabble with colors and try to create positive influences in others, you also want to provide the best mental environment for yourself to enjoy.

.: Can Certain Colors Help You Lose Weight?

There is a theory that if you eat certain colors of food, or off of certain color plates you can lose weight. This is called by some the rainbow diet, or the color diet. Is it true if you eat off of red plates you will eat more than off of a gray plate? What about certain foods? One author makes the argument that if you eat more red, green, and yellow foods you will lose weight. Taking into mind that most red, green and yellow foods are vegetables and fruits perhaps it isn't the color so much as the healthiness of eating fresh fruits and vegetables.
Author Piper Mathison suggests that eating food the same color as the dinner plate can also cause you to over eat. Her argument, based on scientific research suggests that we aren't able to tell the difference between how much we've already eaten and what is left on the plate, based on this theory we over eat simply because we cannot tell how much has already been consumed. In the same idea, according to the Deception Diet, we can trick ourselves into eating less if we just bought smaller plates.
Whether it is the color or size of the plate, the real question a lot of dieters struggle with is what the secrets to easy weight loss are. Weight loss though is seldom easy, and looking for a quick fix is usually a bad idea. Proven weight loss has been in changing how much you eat and the types of food you eat. The color of the walls, plates, or restaurants, is not as important as the type of food and the amount that you are eating. For instance, the color diet suggests that you eat food such as Sweet Potatoes, Tomatoes, Avocados, red, green, yellow, or hot peppers, and so on. The main idea of course is choosing different color foods to make for the healthiest diet possible. Does this really work though? Well it does, but not because of the color of the food but rather the fact that these are healthy choices to make. One of the best diet foods out there is Avocado's, and that isn't because they are green but rather the vitamins and nutrients in the vegetable that makes it healthy.
If you want to be successful in weight loss, then it is correct that you should eat more green foods, as in green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits, and avoiding processed foods. Calories matter, would you be surprised to find out that most of the salads at McDonald's have the same calorie count as a Big Mac, showing that fast food salads aren't necessarily better than burgers; both of them are bad if you want to lose weight.
Instead of wondering about the color of the plate that you are eating off of, start concerning yourself with the amount of food; portions, and preparation are a lot more important than color. Stay away from fast food, processed foods and start making healthy choices, lean poultry, fish, lean cuts of pork and beef, are all a lot more important than color coding your dishes, or pantry.
